The Cherry Blossom Tree.

Recently I have branched out and joined a host of challenges and I am  really enjoying the experience and made some new blogger friends. The latest challenge, for which this is my first entry, is 'Art Journal Journey' and the theme for this month is 'a Fantasy Scene'.

When I was six years old my family emigrated to Australia and lived there for three and a half years. I lived  first in Ballarat and then in Melbourne. Ballerat was in the 'outback' and the post for the area where I lived was delivered by air to a small airport not far from where we lived.

To get there you had to walk through what was left of an old airbase. All that was left was the cement floors of the buildings that were once there but there were also lots of Cherry Blossom trees. They were a beautiful sight and that memory is one of the strongest memories I have from my childhood.

So my 'Fantasy Scene' is myself  at the age of six standing under a cherry blossom tree in the warm sun.

Unfortunately, my tree does not do those beautiful trees justice. To create the blossoms I mixed acrylic paint with light modelling  paste to create more texture. It has not turned out as I had hoped but at least it gives the illusion of a cherry blossom tree.

I am linking this to both PPF and Art Journal Journey.

Thank you for visiting x

  3. Your tree look good on my screen, it gives the impression of the profusion of the pink blossom. I also like your little girl who is enjoying being in the open air and I like the idea behind your Fantasy Scene.

  5. The idea of the scene based on a memory of your childhood is wonderful - and I really think this cherry blossom tree turned out more than just beautiful... this looks AMAZING....soft and delicate!
what a fab childhood - my girl cousin lives with their family near Melbourne, they emigrated from Vienna to Melbourne 30 years ago..but I was never there yet.. my father was there three times - he just returned last week from a 4 week holiday there...
they also made a trip to Singapur..

    I don't think that I will ever visit Australia..but that's no matter...
I live in a very nice region here..like it much!
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for sharing this piece with us at Art Journal Journey-

welcome to Art Journal Journey tourist party!

  11. I think you have created a wonderful image to match a wonderful memory, perhaps you are not so happy with the tree because often our childhood memories are often so fairytale like and it is hard to put those into a visual image. I think the tree looks beautiful and I like the idea of using modelling paste too.

  15. I knew what the tree's were. I had thought you had used PanPastel after you mentioning them on my blog, so great job with the paint and added texture, I think maybe the photo does not do it as much justice as the 'real' thing.

  16. I would have known this was cherry blossom even if you had not said. The colour is perfect. I really like the whole page, your wee shift dress and that you have bare feet :o)

  17. Hello, me once again.. you asked about my homemade transparencies out of newspaperimages..
Look this video- maybe you have done it ..but you didn't know my term for what I did....

    LOOK HERE

this is so simple and just so cool...
when I make the transparencies I glue them simple down with Modgepodge or Gelmedium and it's done....

AMAZING possibilties for Art Journaling and Mixed Media and so much cheaper than to print out images and just glue them down..the background shines through so lovely or you can white the backside with white acrylic color
you have to know it just works well with Laser Printed Images ...or prints made with Copymachine... but most of the magazines we get for free work fab because this are all laserprints....and packaging tape or you can take selfadhesive transparent bookfoil for schoolbooks is cheap too !

  20. What a beautiful painting - I love the cherry blossom on the trees, I think you've captured it perfectly, and I also love the fact if has such meaning - I really find a relate to a piece of art work more if I know there's a story behind it. It really looks like you are enjoying your new challenges - hope your finger joint is mended now - looks like you'll be needing it quite a lot!
